STAR Society is a community-based nonprofit dedicated to accessible theatre, film, and arts experiences in Sherwood and the surrounding region. We exist to support creative expression, shared storytelling, and meaningful cultural connection — offering opportunities for people to create, learn, and experience the arts in a welcoming, community-centered environment.
Why We Exist
STAR Society was formed from a simple belief: the arts thrive when they are accessible, collaborative, and rooted in community. We believe local theatre, film, and creative spaces should be places where: • People feel welcome regardless of background or experience • Stories are shared with care and intention • Creativity is supported through structure, not chaos • Community matters more than individual ego Our work is not about prestige or exclusivity. It’s about creating opportunities — for artists, volunteers, audiences, and supporters — to participate in something meaningful together
How We Operate
STAR Society is a volunteer-driven nonprofit organization governed by a collaborative leadership model. We are guided by: • A governing body with shared authority and equal voting rights • Clear organizational roles and responsibilities • Transparent decision-making processes • A commitment to accountability, safety, and respect No single individual owns or controls STAR Society. Leadership exists to serve the mission, support the organization’s health, and ensure continuity beyond any one production, personality, or moment in time.
